NOPS Protocol
POLICY REGARDING PROHIBITED SUBSTANCES IN EQUESTRIAN SPORT
Global Medics is strongly committed to the integrity of equestrian sport and to the health and well-being of both horse and rider. Our products are developed and manufactured according to strict protocols for minimizing doping risks, in order to keep the risk of contamination with substances prohibited by the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) as low as possible.
We understand that there is a lot at stake in competitive sports and that many federations maintain a zero-tolerance policy regarding prohibited substances. Therefore, our processes are based on quality, transparency, and strict risk management.
Our protocols for minimizing doping risks include:
- Clean production environment: Our products are manufactured in a facility where no veterinary or human pharmaceutical products are processed. The production site is certified according to ISO 22000 and FCA (GMP+).
- No processing of lupine: No lupine is processed in our production environment, which minimizes the risk of contamination with sparteine.
- Labeling: All ingredients are clearly stated on our packaging, so that customers can make informed choices.
- Traceability: Every production batch can be traced back to the origin of the raw materials used, which guarantees full transparency within the supply chain.
- Prevention of cross-contamination: Strict cleaning procedures prevent the transfer of substances between different production batches.
- Formulations: Our team of experts regularly evaluates our product compositions based on updates to the FEI list of prohibited substances.
- Raw materials: Suppliers confirm that all raw materials are free from prohibited substances. In addition, we carry out random checks on incoming raw materials to ensure continued compliance.
- Testing: Our products are regularly tested for Naturally Occurring Prohibited Substances (NOPS) at an FEI-approved laboratory: Le Laboratoire des Courses Hippiques (France). This includes screening for caffeine, theobromine, theophylline, atropine, scopolamine, morphine, methylbufotenine, dimethyltryptamine, bufotenine, hordenine, thebaine, and codeine.
- In-vivo studies: Selected products are subjected to in-vivo testing, including urine and blood analyses carried out by Le Laboratoire des Courses Hippiques. These tests confirm the safety of the products and their compliance with FEI Clean Sport regulations under practical conditions. In addition, they help in determining specific withdrawal periods for certain products.
- Responsible use: Always follow the recommended dosage and consult your veterinarian for advice if necessary.
